A conversation with an ex-colleague has inspired me to try my hand at writing poetry. How the subject of merkins arose and why it has inspired my first effort can wait until another day. After numerous drafts, the quatrain appears to be my favoured format, simply because I don’t yet possess the poetic wherewithal to stretch the verse to the five lines required for a limerick, the format I had originally aspired to. Writing poetry is new to me and my early efforts will be flawed and are very much a work in progress. So, please bear with me, as I hone my craft. Anyhow, here goes:
Mabel had a merkin
Its size was overpowering
She wore it every day to work
But took it off when showering.
I fear there might well be more where this came from! Oh, and please remember: like a pet, a merkin is for life, not just for Christmas!
